Zucchini Bread

One of my greatest wishes in life is that everyone in the world could eat at least one slice of this zucchini bread.

This is my mom’s WORLD FAMOUS zucchini bread and I think everyone needs to just calm down and try a bite.

If you are wary about eating bread with grated vegetables in it…just remember that carrot cake is delicious, and also has grated veggies in it.

And if you don’t like carrot cake…then you may be out of luck.

But I bet if you closed your eyes and just thought of this bread as a really dense and delicious cinnamon cake…you would fall in love.

Bliss Bars

These bars may look familiar to some of you…

Starbucks.

Sigh…

Lets not get all winey and liberal and argumentative about corporate coffee, please.

I worked at a small town coffee shop that would die if a Starbucks opened their doors close by so I understand.

Seriously, I get it.

I will love and support local coffee brewers forever and for always.

Especially because I live in a city where the most amazing coffee is being made all within a 1 mile radius of my house…

Ipsento, Julius Meinl, Intelligentsia, The Wormhole…just to name a few.

So please don’t hate.

I like Starbucks. It’s quick and they put drugs in my toffee nut latte so I can’t stop.

They consequently sell these “bliss bars” there too.

Strawberry Sandwich Cookies with Cream Cheese Frosting

Happy Valentines Day!

You either love this day orrrrrr you hate it with a fiery passion.

I love it because it is a random day where I get to eat sugar all day long without feeling guilty.

I can eat things like these pretty heart cookies…

Or pink and red M&M’s, or giant Hershey’s chocolate bars (a tradition from my Dad), or handfuls of Sweet Tart conversation hearts.

It’s also a day where I am reminded of how lucky I am to have Mikey.

Seriously. I don’t know how he loves me so perfectly.

Trust me though, I am well aware that there are a million people out there who hate valentines day and the horrible Hallmark holiday it has become.

To you I apologize.

I’m sure there were times I felt your pain and I hope that you can take this post for what it is and forgive me…

If I were you I would have a really good cry. Then I would plant myself on the couch with a family size bag of Cheetos, a pint of Ben and Jerry’s Clusterfluff ice cream, and watch Bravo reality shows for 6 hours straight.

Essence of Orange Muffins

Most of my recipes are either passed down from my Mom/family, or I have stumbled upon them randomly on the internet.

Upon realizing this last week, I decided it was time to dive into my stack of somewhat neglected cookbooks.

I settled on this one particular cookbook my Mom got me for my birthday last year.

It is called The Pastry Queen, by Rebecca Rather. The book is filled with recipes from her Rather Sweet Bakery Cafe, located in Texas.

The book is filled with everything from heavy chocolate cake to light airy muffins to hearty breakfast egg bakes.

I decided since I had made a cake with 3 sticks of butter the day before…I should try something a bit lighter.

Essence of orange muffins.

Although there is still a fair amount of butter, eggs, sour cream and sugar in these…they feel super light and literally melt in your mouth.
