New Orleans-Style Shrimp and Rice

I made this shrimp last weekend and it is the most warming and perfect stew for a cold night. It smells incredible and will surely warm your soul! I thought since Mardi Gras was this past weekend I would share a recipe with some southern flare.

It is very easy to make and you could easily add different meats or vegetables depending on your preference.

It was getting dark so I wasn’t able to take many pictures/they are not the best quality. Don’t let that stop you from trying this recipe!

Dark Chocolate Brownies

While looking for baking inspiration this weekend I came to the realization that I had never made brownies for my blog.

I did some searching and found this dark chocolate brownie recipe. It has almost 4 dark chocolate bars melted down into the batter…I figured with those ingredients I couldn’t go wrong!

These are a bit time consuming for a brownie, especially considering most brownies come in a box and all you have to do is add some eggs, oil and water…but I promise these are worth the extra work!

Bourbon Pecan Pie

My first pie.

As you saw last week, I was worried about the crust. But it ended up being super easy and fun.

My brother in law sent me a recipe for a bourbon pecan pie and told me I needed to make it. So I adjusted the recipe a bit and this pie is what I ended up with. There are a couple things I would do differently next time, which I listed at the end of the recipe at the bottom. But I will say that my first time making a pie was a success overall and I look forward to trying my hand at some fruit pies soon!

Mikey and I are headed out west for the weekend so I’ll try to snap some pictures to share, but sadly I won’t be baking and therefore won’t have a new recipe for you. Hold tight! I’ll try and get back in the kitchen next week!

Go-To Pie Crust

I made my first pie!

I have always been intimidated by pie crust for some reason and decided it was time to roll up my sleeves and dive in.

And it turned out great.

The pie that I will be posting soon is a Bourbon Pecan Pie with this amazingly flaky pie crust recipe I found on The Pioneer Woman’s blog. She is an amazing blogger/writer/cowgirl and if you haven’t seen her blog I encourage you to check it out!

After tons of research and looking at about a million recipes, I decided to go with this “perfect pie crust” that is made with Crisco, not butter. I was nervous when I started but soon realized how easy it really is and not as scary as I thought. You just need to move a little quick and keep your dough cool and I promise you will end up with a great pie crust!

I am so excited to share my Bourbon Pecan Pie recipe with you soon as well as try out some new pie recipes in the near future. Do you have a favorite pie recipe? If so I would love to hear what it is!

Chicken Tikka Masala

Looks like my new years resolution should have been to spend more time baking and cooking for my blog!

Sorry I haven’t posted for so long! January and February are turning out to be just as (if not more) busy than the holidays! Yikes.

The recipe I have for you today is one of our favorite lazy day indulgences. It is rich and creamy with a big kick of heat that is great for cold days!

Tikka Masala can be made with many different spices and meats, but chicken is our favorite. You can add more or less of any of the spices depending on what you like!

I hope you have avoided or recovered from the terrible flu that seems to have attacked everyone in the nation! Keep those new years resolutions going strong!
