Citrus & Campari Prosecco Spritzer

Summer is all about 2 things for me.

SPF and fruity cocktails. In that order.

I came up with this cocktail the other day and it is hands down the Bethany drink of summer ’15.  I combined all my favorite things and the outcome was light, delicious and super refreshing!

The base of this drink is prosecco (of course) followed by a splash of Campari and a splash of grapefruit Sanpellegrino soda. I added a spritz of lemon and garnished with a lemon peel.

Yes I was home alone and yes I felt fancy all by my lonesome. It was great. Just me, my cat and some bubbly (it may or may not have been a Tuesday).

Just in case you didn’t know by now, prosecco is my favorite. Followed closely by a Negroni cocktail and anything mixed with grapefruit.

It’s super difficult to take a picture of your hand like this. I tried about 1,000 times and it was either super chubby, creepy and alien-like or the glass was tipped all the way over to the side. This was as good as I could get it. (Yes, I realize it is tipping over to the right. Drives me crazy).

The weekend is nearly here and I can’t wait to enjoy some refreshing cocktails with friends! I hope you are surviving this week thus far and if not…make a couple of these, you’ll feel better. I promise!

Happy National Doughnut Day!!!

Have you had a doughnut yet? I have. Worth every last greasy, sweet calorie. I licked my fingers clean and lugged it all down with some coffee. It was heavenly. Why can’t I just eat all the breakfast carbs all day every day and not die of a heart attack/weigh a million pounds?!? Life’s not fair.

What’s your favorite doughnut? My favorite is all of them.

Look at this link to find all the most delicious doughnuts your little heart can desire!

There is something so beautiful about this picture.I love her hair, her makeup… Everything about it is amazing.

I was on the beach this past weekend in Marco Island, Florida and I had my fair share of sun, drinks and seafood. I did NOT want to leave and I’m still having a hard time adjusting to real life. There is nothing better than a girls weekend with some best friends. It’s just so good for the soul. This pineapple made me happy and reminded me of the carefree weekend of bachelorette shenanigans with my gals.

Coffee is 100% necessary when eating a doughnut. I love how beautiful and perfect this milk pour looks in this espresso.  The beautiful art people are able to create with food will always amaze me!

Speaking of the beach…how about this tote? You can add a liner to it or keep it like this (which is the way i prefer). It is so fun and different from the typical beach bag/tote. You will look good no matter how sunburned you get as long as you are sporting this tote bag!

Lately

It is hot in Chicago!

HALLELUJAH! Summer has arrived.

You know how I know? Because my poor cat won’t move. He is perpetually sprawled out on the cool bathroom tile and there is cat hair everywhere. He’s getting a shave next week. I can’t wait. He doesn’t know it yet…it’s his biggest fear. The process is awful but he loves the end result (and so do my allergies/vacuum cleaner). If you follow me on Instagram prepare yourselves for an influx of cat pictures (who would ever complain about that, though?).

I can also tell summer is here because my hair is a puff ball. Less curly and more just a fuzzy puff. It’s super fun.

Speaking of fun, I’m heading down to Florida this weekend for the bachelorette party of one of my dearest friends since high school. I have purchased some fun, colorful and inappropriate items that I look forward to sending through the scanner in security. We are headed down to some real steamy, summer weather and I can’t wait! I am inspired by my trip and found some fun summer pictures that I’m crushing on lately. I hope you have an awesome weekend enjoying some warm weather!

First order of business: Drinks.

I want to drink these coconut & strawberry Lava Flow cocktails every day in warm weather. Pass. It. Down.
ff4221f65e45e4afabba095d213ad9ec There is nothing I don’t love about this outfit. Everything. Perfect. unnamed-1 These are Pink Lemonade Macarons. They look so pretty and girly and bachelorette/wedding perfect. Pink-Lemonade-Macarons-1 One of my top favorite ways to consume lobster is in the form of a Lobsta Roll. I think I could eat 4 in one sitting. Seriously. Seafood is my favorite and I want it for all my meals. It’s hard to get it fresh here in the Midwest so any time I’m by the ocean you better believe I’m going to chow down. 9c42ba419d43647a0af45b3e20dd011b I am in LOVEEEEEE with Gentle Monster sunglasses. They are so fun and large. If I was able to get a pair I don’t even know how I would narrow it down. The pair below is one of my top fav’s. Those blue lenses are fabuloso! unnamed-2

How to Style a Bar Cart

DSC_0142

I’ve been meaning to share a post on how to style a bar cart for over a year now. I kept taking pictures and would then delete them but I finally got my act together, stocked up and dusted off some bottles and can now share how we style our bar cart! There are thousands of bar carts out there. Vintage, glass, modern, whimsey, industrial. The list goes on and on.

Mikey and I have more modern/contemporary taste and I couldn’t find a bar cart that I liked for so long. I had my Mom searching the antique shops up in WI and stopping at every garage sale she could find. No luck. It was about a year and a half ago that I stumbled upon this cart at CB2 and fell in love. It was just what I had been looking for! The cart is a super reasonable price and even though it’s not technically a bar cart, we absolutely love it.

I also searched for letters to hang above our bar for about 6 months and finally found the combination of letters that I liked online. I love that the letters set the area apart from the rest of the room and add a bit of fun with the large yellow R. It’s funny how the adults who come over always comment on the bar cart right away!

DSC_0156 Lets talk booze.

We always have a few different bottles and mixers on our cart as our “essentials,” if you will. They include vodka, whiskey and gin as well as vermouth, bitters and soda water. It seems that you can always make up a concoction as long as you have those basics.

Our favorite basics are:

Vodka: Kettle One, CH Distillery.

Gin: Few, Barrel Aged and Hendricks.

Sweet Vermouth: Tribuno, Gallo or whatever fun bottle we see when we need more.

Whiskey: Makers Mark, High West  (we typically always have a bottle of Makers and then Mikey keeps a nicer whiskey in his decanter).

We also stock:

Campari (for Negronis),

Bitters: Angostura, Fee Brothers, and Peychauds,

Absinthe,

Tequilla,

Cointreau,

White Rum.

Depending on the season we stock other liquiors like Bailey’s and Kahlua in the winter and a flavored vodka in the summer. We are not big rum fans but we will buy white rum for Mojitos in the summer as well as tequila for margaritas.

Mixers:

Ginger Beer (for Moscow Mules),

Soda Water, Tonic Water,

Diet Coke & 7up,

San Pellegrino Sparkling Fruit Beverage (so good mixed with Vodka),

Stiegl Radler (grapefruit beer, best with a shot of Gin or Vodka).

Wine and Champagne: We always try to keep a few bottles of wine for the occasional pop-in guest (and because we love to drink it as well). I suggest you offer/stock the following,

Champagne/Prosecco,

Pinot Grigio/Chardonnay, Malbec/Merlot/Bordeaux, Rosé.

Cordials/Port: We are not huge cordial drinkers; we do, however, love a good port. Mikey and I fell in love with port while on vacation in Jamaica. It’s a long story that involves friends we made from England and an expensive bottle that had to be finished before we all left for home…We keep one bottle for that random occasion and always feel fancy/nostalgic when we sip them from my Grandmas old cordial glasses.

Our Favorites: Tawny Port, Vintage Port, Ruby Port.

DSC_0168 Drink Accessories. In the picture above, we have a tray that we keep some cocktail accessories on.

We got the silver tray from CB2 and the decanter is from Pottery Barn.

We have a container filled with cocktail accessories in the back (hard to see in the pictures) as well as a couple of shot glasses and a shaker. I don’t remember where we found our shaker but you can find them anywhere and for any price point! We have an ice bucket and a wine chiller.

We got our ice bucket and chiller from Crate and Barrel 6 years ago but I like the links above from CB2. We love the shiny, stainless look but you can go for more vintage, leather or mixed metal looks as well, depending on what you like!

As far as glassware, we have the copper Moscow Mule mugs, some vintage, silver and glass cordial glasses we inherited from my Grandma (I’m obsessed) and then some gold, decorative glasses for cocktails. I don’t stock my champagne glasses and wine glasses on the cart because they get too dusty. We have a cabinet filled to the brim with pint glasses, wine glasses, champagne flutes, margarita & martini glasses…the list goes on. Mikey managed a bar once upon a time and the glassware he collected over the years…yeesh!

DSC_0172 I hope you find this post helpful! We have had so much fun stocking and finding the perfect pieces for our bar cart! Do you have a specific bottle of booze, wine, etc. that you always keep stocked at your house? We love making new cocktails and trying new thing so please share your favorite recipes or brands with me!

I hope you all had a lovely Holiday weekend!

Cheers!!!!!     DSC_0159   DSC_0161DSC_0160DSC_0164DSC_0137
