About

I started this blog a couple years ago because I have a passion for food and thought it would be fun to share my recipes and musings in the kitchen!

The reason for the name, Mikey’s In My Kitchen is because I am married to an inspirational eater who always finds his way into any kitchen. Trust me, I love when Mikey is in my kitchen, but I don’t always love how he picks at everything while I’m prepping and making it. My tolerance for the grazing has improved over the years, but when we were first married it made me crazy – hence the blog name.

Mikey was always in my kitchen, grazing on the salad, picking out the big pieces of avocado or eating the chicken out of the pasta. His Mom and I have laughed about this and how she used to experience the same thing from Mikey and his siblings when they were growing up…she would always yell to them, “Get your mitts off the Mackinaw”… We still use the phrase and joke about  it’s mysterious origin often.

My passion for baking definitely comes from my Mom. I am also inspired greatly by both my Grandmothers in the kitchen as well as in life. My Mom picked up a few cooking and baking tips from them but mostly taught herself. She encouraged me to experiment in the kitchen as a kid, and no matter how many times I failed (salt instead of sugar in a muffin recipe, oops!) she picked me up, dried my tears and told me not to be discouraged, but to try again.

I still call my Mom on a regular basis when I have baking questions and she is always there to guide me and share delicious recipes with me (though some are still a secret).

I’m blessed in this life to have an amazing family and friends who encourage me and inspire my baking endeavors and keep me blogging when I question the commitment it takes to bake, write and photograph for a blog.

Thank you so much for stopping by and visiting my little corner of the web! I hope it intrigues you enough to keep you coming back for more recipes and encourages you to bust out your aprons and try out a few new, old, or re-imagined recipes for yourself!

  4. I love your blog! All the food looks so delicious and I can’t wait to try the brown butter snicker doodles! I have a passion for food, but in the sense that I love to garden! I work with a company called Cayisa to promote learning gardens and community gardens all over America. You should check out the website (www.cayisa.com) or the blog (www.cayisa.wordpress.com) and see if it’s something you’d be interested in!

  5. Oh my gosh, I have to ask- is Norman your beautiful cat a Norwegian Forest cat? I have a lovely girl (Princess) who is a Norwegian Forest cat and the same colours. Such personality! I also have my own cooking blog- seems like we have a bit in common. Following will be a must 🙂

    • He is actually a Scottish Fold with a mix of something else (his Mom escaped and a neighbor cat knocked her up, oops!). Your cat sounds beautiful 🙂 I’ll be sure to check out your blog!

  6. Stumbled on your blog the other day when I was googling info about s’mores pies. I love it. Forwarded to a friend who decided to try to make your peanut butter cookie sandwiches. Keep up the good work!

  7. Awesome blog! They layout and everything looks amazing, so does all the content! You have some delicious recipes on here I could spend hours just looking through them getting inspiration of what to have for dinner 🙂 I totally love the name of you blog too, for me it has always been my dad in my kitchen. There is no way of stopping him sneaking a bit of cookie dough or anything that is being made, it used to drive me up the wall…

  8. I love your “learning to bake” history. Your mom sounds like such a beautiful friend. And beautiful writing. I love it. 🙂
