Turkey, Sweet Potato and Pea Curry

This chilly weather has me craving warm and hearty foods already!

Mikey and I are hugeeeeee curry fanatics and this turkey curry does not disappoint. It is a staple in our fall and winter dinner cycle and I thought I would share it with you today!

The combination of all the spices mixed with the jalapeno and ginger makes this curry a great cold-remedy. It clears your sinuses and calms you stomach. We like to serve this over jasmine rice and top it with a sprinkle of fresh basil or cilantro.

If you’re not a complete curry fan like us, you can try taming the spices down by about 1/2 teaspoon each. Or just omit spices you don’t like in your foods (cinnamon, cardamom) and gradually work up to those flavors!

You could add or subtract any of the veggies here as well as the ground turkey. Just as long as you let everything simmer in the coconut milk mixture until it is cooked through.

I hope you’ve started to mentally prepare for fall…I am almost there.

I bet Mikey a back rub that we still have one more 80 degree left before the cold and permanent fall weather sets in…It looks like this Saturday could be my chance at a victory…we shall see!

I hope to make some yummy fall dishes to share with you this weekend! Do you have any fall favorites? If so I would love to hear about them or see a link shared in my comments! I’m always searching for delicious new (or old to you, new to me) recipes!

Malted Chocolate Whopper Cake

It’s a candy explosion!

DSC_0191When I first saw this cake I knew I had to make it happen.

And now I think I’m addicted.

I want to make every flavor of cake with every type of candy. I love the fun, messy and delicious way the whoppers and sprinkles look.

I already have 3 other cake ideas that I can’t wait to try! Now if only I could find things to do with all this cake I plan on making!

This is a pretty simple cake to make and the chocolate/malt cake is absolutely delicious. Who knew you could add malt powder to batter and glaze? A genius, that’s who. I am so in love. I recommend you make this cake whether you like malt powder or not. It is a light and fluffy chocolate cake but so so moist. Then the crunch from the Whoppers and sprinkles, plus the soft fluffy cake and sweet sticky glaze…I just can’t stop.

Do yourself or someone else a favor…make this malted milk ball cake. You will be super glad you did 🙂

Lately

I woke up today and I decided I was ready for fall weather.

I walked down the block to get coffee from my favorite place on the planet, La Colombe, and was blanketed in a layer of smog/humidity that turned me into a sweaty mess almost immediately. I had hot coffee on the brain and was determined to stick with my gut…I should have known better. By the time I had my hot coffee in hand and stepped back out into the muggy Chicago morning, I was in need of a new shirt. I still had to walk home, up the stairs and somehow enjoy this hot drink.

[I love how they serve their drinks and pastries with these beautifully painted plates and cups]

I was able to enjoy it, and I have (mostly) shaken my bad attitude about the humidity that ruins my hair and forces me to change my clothes.

A week ago, I would have told you I wanted it to stay summer forever…but today that all changed.

I can’t stop thinking about fall foods and baked goods. I also LOVE Oktoberfest beer and want to try them all. I want to go to the pumpkin patch and wear flannel all day every day!

As you know, Mikey and I recently bought a condo in the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago. We love it and can’t wait to have a housewarming party. There are a few little changes we want to make around the house and we also need to decorate and buy furniture…HAAAAAAAAAAA, so we are not ready to have a party yet…but I’m hoping we will be ready by October, which is also Mikey’s birthday month. And if everything goes as planned…I’m hoping to have an Oktoberfest themed party! Fingers crossed we can get this place ready by then…otherwise I’m thinking the party will be in February since the holidays always seem to swallow us all whole.

All that being said, here are the things (aside from fall) that I’m loving lately!

As I said, I love Oktoberfest beer. I have been told Goose Island makes the greatest Oktoberfest and my 2nd sweaty mission today is to find, and purchase as many bottles as possible.

I also think that this shower curtain is the cutest thing in the world, and if I had a kids bathroom you better believe this would be in there!

I am a huge fan of corn, in any and all forms (although corn ice cream was a little weird. Not bad, but weird) and these Mexican Street Corn Croquettes look outstanding! mexican-street-corn-croquettes-4

My favorite jewelry designer is hands down, Alexis Bittar. The man can do no wrong. This bracelet is one of the many many pieces he’s done that I am in love with.

And last but not least, something sweet. What would this blog be without dessert? I think these frozen salted s’more sandwiches look pretty darn delish (so much alliteration!).

I hope you’ve had a great week! My plan is to get cookin’ in the kitchen this weekend so I can serve you up some new recipes asap! Have a great weekend!

Zucchini Lasagna

I present you with yet another zucchini recipe!

This is a very sneaky zucchini recipe. The Zucchini is masked in a layer of rich spaghetti sauce and creamy cheeses. It is a low-carb version of everyone’s favorite lasagna.

I went out on a limb in making this and thought it was going to taste terrible and be a flop, but Mikey and I were pleasantly surprised. So much so, that I plan to add this to our dinner cycle and would recommend the recipe to anyone!

I absolutely love lasagna, and Mikey loves all things pasta, so we were very skeptical about this recipe. Especially since we love this Chicken and Mushroom Lasagna and my Mom’s recipe for our easy Favorite Lasagna. But this is a great way to enjoy some delicious zucchinis while they are still fresh and in season.

Mikey and I are planning on hanging out at home this weekend and I hope to spend some time in the kitchen since my list of new recipes is stacking up so stay tuned!!

Lately

Hey, hey blog world!

Who is excited for the long weekend?

I KNOW I AMMMMM! Mikey and I are taking off early tomorrow morning to head up to northern WI and hang out with friends and family. We are also attending the wedding of one of my best friends from home and I can’t wait to celebrate her marriage and dance my face off!

I hope you are as excited for your weekend as we are! Here are a few links to things I’ve been loving on lately 🙂

I love how simple and sweet these almond and white nectarine financiers look.

Even though I love summer…I have a VERY slight (please summer, don’t end!) bit of excitement for fall. I can’t wait to bust out my Moto Jacket (similar to the one pictured here) for the season!

To me this cake is absolute perfection. Not only because I love carrot cake to death…but because the style of it is everything to me.

I thought I was organized…and then I saw the organization in this  Closet… I have some work to do.

Did I mention that I’m so excited for the long holiday weekend! I can’t wait for the moment when I’m sitting with my family up north enjoying a nice cocktail…perhaps this Apricot Lime Mojito!
